Professor Paula Jarzabkowski joined a workshop on “Leveraging the role of insurance for managing catastrophe risks”. Moderated by Mrs Bharatee Bholah- Bissonauth, the session examined the role of insurance in protecting individuals, households and businesses against the financial consequences of catastrophic and unforeseen events such as natural catastrophe or pandemics which lead to large-scale losses and affect many policyholders simultaneously, are challenging to insure. The session explored some of the challenges and potential solutions of insurance in protecting against catastrophe risks, such as extreme weather, large-scale cyber-attacks and infectious disease outbreaks and how to reinforce business strategies.
